Early cancer of the cervix can be exhibited as ASCUS on a Pap smear.
Traditional treatments for abnormal cells are the following: LEEP procedures, cryotherapy, and cone biopsies. These procedures can be invasive or mild, depending on the amount of abnormal cells and stage of the disease. ASCUS is one of the causes of this condition. The root of all atypical changes in the squamous cells is the human papilloma virus. There are over 30 types of HPV that are responsible for this condition. Early cancer of the cervix can be exhibited as ASCUS on a Pap smear.
