Early stages of the disease are treatable without surgical removal of the uterus, but in severe stages the uterus with ovaries are usually removed. In early stages there no symptoms; then persistent vaginal discharge and abnormal bleeding may occur, weight loss, fatigue, back pain or bone fracture are possible. These symptoms require immediate treatment.

The term refers to the disease causing by the flattened or “squamous” cells covering the cervix or from the glandular, mucus-secreting cells. The development of the disease is gradual; it often begins with dysplasia, which was not treated in a goof time.
