Abstinence, or having one sexual partner (a monogamous relationship) is the only real protection against HPV transmission. Since HPV is transmitted through simple skin-to-skin contact, condoms offer little to know protection against sexually transmitted strains of HPV. One whom is a cervical cancer risk would be one with a history of a genital wart or ASCUS pap.
