Cervical cancer pap smear screenings will also detect condyloma, or if a cone biopsy to remove abnormal cells is necessary.
It is then tested for its origin through HPV DNA testing. A colposcopy and biopsy of the tissue in question is taken. After initial abnormal cells are found, further testing must be done. Identifying the nature and cause of cancerous cells of the cervix is acquired through this test.

It will determine if women are carrying high-risk strains of HPV even if their Paps have been normal. This is considered preventative medicine. To prevent the cells from ever getting to the cancerous stage, the FDA has approved automatic HPV DNA testing of women 30 years or older. Cervical cancer pap smear screenings will also detect condyloma, or if a cone biopsy to remove abnormal cells is necessary.
